The world feels heavy right now. Between the headlines and the distant rumble of uncertainty, I have noticed a profound difference in how we process the world compared to our companions.

Lately, Ive been spending more time at home and watching my cats, Salt and Pepper. When a loud noise echoes outside or the energy in the room shifts, their ears twitch, their bodies tense. Pepper jumps up into the air and goes under the sofa whilst Salt tends to shake and stare at me in my eyes, and they are 100% present in that fear. But then, something magical happens. A few minutes later, they stretch, they yawn, and they let it go. They return to their baseline of peace almost instantly.

And as humans we hang on. We loop the what ifs. We store the tension in our shoulders for days, weeks, or months. We stay in a state of high alert long after the threat has passed.

But our animals? They are masters of the nervous system reset. They do not overthink the why they just focus on the now.

However, during times of conflict, our pets face a unique challenge: their world is much louder than ours. Their hearing is razor sharp, and they don't just hear the noise, they feel our frantic energy. If we are vibrating with anxiety, they absorb it like a sponge.

How to Support Your Pets (and Yourself) Right Now

If you have noticed your fur babies acting clingy, hiding, or seem off, here are a few things you can do to soothe their heightened senses:-

  • Create a Safe Den. Set up a quiet, windowless area, like a bathroom or a covered box, where your pet can retreat to feel secure.

  • Muffle Outside Noise. Close all windows, doors, and curtains, a fan, or soft music soft to drown out the outside noise so they feel calm.

  • Use Gentle Pressure. Wrapping your pet in a snug blanket can provide a sense of security similar to swaddling a baby.

  • Stick to a Routine. Try to maintain regular feeding and play times to give your animal a sense of predictability and normalcy.

  • Provide Distractions. Offer long lasting chew toys, puzzle feeders, or lick mats to help them focus on a positive activity instead of the noise.

Watching Salt and Peppers journey through these noisy times inspired me to create something special. I realised that if I can help humans Rest & Reset, I should be doing the same for the innocent souls who walk beside us, after all I am also a Cerftified Animal Reiki Practicioner.

I’ve developed a unique Healing Frequency Session specifically designed for animals (and their humans!). It combines Reiki energy healing with low decibel calming music and a soothing meditation to help drop both of your nervous systems out of fight or flight and back into peace.
